imageThe Ladies Invitational Bluefish Tournament raises money for the AtlantiCare RNS Mobile Mammography Unit. These funds provide mammograms to uninsured women at no charge thus removing financial barriers to receiving this important and potentially life-saving screening. Absecon Lighthouse is a state-owned historic property administered by the non-profit Inlet Public/Private Association.  Located at 31 So. Rhode Island Avenue in Atlantic City, it is open to visitors Thursdays through Mondays, 11 am to 4 pm.  Absecon Lighthouse received a general operating support grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of Cultural Affairs in the Department of State, and a cooperative marketing grant from the Office of Travel & Tourism.




Chefs at the Shore 2012

imageThe 9th annual Chefs at the Shore benefit will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM at the Atlantic City Aquarium in Historic Gardner’s Basin.

The fundraising event is part of Professional Chefs Week, and is held in conjunction with the Professional Chefs Association of South Jersey, a local chapter of the American Culinary Federation.

As usual, celebrity and well-known chefs will make their appearance at this fundraising event. Chefs at the Shore also will feature local celebrity chefs from casino and regional restaurants. Each chef will bring a signature dish to share. The menu covers the full range, including seafood, meat, vegetarian and even gluten-free.

Scheduled for Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Atlantic City Aquarium in Historic Gardner’s Basin, Chefs at the Shore is part of Professional Chefs Week.

The Professional Chefs Association will use funds from the event to support its scholarship program to help aspiring chefs find careers in the field.  The Professional Chefs Association is a local chapter of the American Culinary Federation.

Cape May Quilt and Fiber Arts Show

imageHistoric Cold Spring Village is featuring all things fiber arts at its ‘Spin to Stitch’ weekend, to be held June 23rd and 24th.  Open from 10am until 4:30 both days, the event features demonstrations and vendors of all fiber arts including, quilting, spinning, weaving, knitting, basketry, lace & rug making.  To honor Cape May’s early industry tradition of mittens; all guests will receive $3 off one adult admission with the donation of a pair of hand-knit mittens.  This event is sponsored by The Chatlos Foundation.

2012 marks the 27th year for viewer’s choice quilt show.  Visitors may vote for their favorite quilts on Saturday or see the results on Sunday in Welcome Center.   Yesteryear Quilters will present a quilt ‘hand-turning’, in period clothing, to demonstrate techniques of the 19th century throughout the day at the Gazebo.  Try your hand at quilting or knitting on the Country Store Porch, and take-home craft projects are featured throughout the Village.

Weekend special events will run until mid-September.  Fun and educational activities for children are featured Tuesday through Sunday from late June to Labor Day.  Historic Cold Spring Village is a non-profit Early American open-air living history museum located at 720 Route 9, three miles north of Victorian Cape May and four miles south of Rio Grande, exit 4A from the Garden State Parkway.  Hours of operation are 10am-4:30pm.  Admission during the season is $10 for adults, and $8 for children ages 3-12.  Children under 3 are admitted free.  The Ice Cream Parlor and Bakery are open for business, as well at the Country Store which features a new line of heritage goods.  The Old Grange Restaurant by Tony Clark on Village grounds is open Tuesday through Sunday for lunch and dinner, with breakfast service on weekends.; please contact the Old Grange Restaurant at (609) 884-0114.  For more information on Historic Cold Spring Village hours, events, private affairs, membership or volunteering, please call (609) 898-2300, ext. 10 or visit www.hcsv.org.

26th Annual Red, White, and Blueberry Festival

imageThe town of Hammonton, New Jersey, known as "The Blueberry Capital of the World," will hold its 26th annual Red, White, and Blueberry Festival on Sunday, June 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the grounds of Hammonton High School.

Run by the Hammonton Chamber of Commerce, the Red, White and Blueberry Festival offers a real taste of old-time Americana, featuring blueberry pie eating contests, blueberry bake-offs, and homemade blueberry treats for sale.  Visitors can try blueberry buckle, blueberry crisps, blueberry syrup on waffles, blueberry turnovers, and blueberry ice cream, as well as traditional fair food.  Also, between 75 and 100 crafters will be exhibiting their work.  Admission and parking for the festival are free.

Hammonton High School is located at 566 Old Forks Road in Hammonton.

32nd Annual Avalon 5 Miler

imageCONTACT Cape-Atlantic will hold the 32nd Annual Avalon 5 Miler on Saturday, July 14 at 8:00 a.m., with registration beginning at 7:00 a.m.  This 5 mile run and 2 mile walk begins at the Avalon Community Hall, 30th and Avalon Avenue, Avalon, NJ.  Pre-registration is $18 and same day registration is $20.  T-shirts to the first 125 registered.

Registration starts at 7:00 a.m. with the 5K Run starting at 8:00 and The Walk at 8:15 a.m. Donation to participate is $25 for adults and $10 for children under 12. A FREE 1 day pass to The Steel Pier Amusements ($35 value) will be given to a child (under 14) registrant when accompanied by an adult registration (to the first 100).  Bring in at least $50 in pledges and get a FREE registration. Donation includes DJ entertainment, refreshments and a T-shirt for all pre-registrants and post-registrants as available.  Gift Certificate and Medal Awards will be given to the top finishers and to the top three males and females in five year age groups. Awards will also be given to the top pledge collector and top pledge Team. Special recognition will be given to all children walkers. It is rumored that Santa will attend! Al Mackler Cancer Foundation Annual Run & Walk

imageThe Al Mackler Cancer Foundation 16th Annual Race and Stephan Jonas 1 Mile Walk will be held on July 29, 2012 at 7:30 AM in front of the Atlantic City Hilton on The Boardwalk.

Each year, our local politicians, as well as racers and families come out to have fun and support our cause.

The event includes a 5K Run, 1 Mile Run, 1 Mile Walk and 50 Yard Dash for Kids. At the conclusion of the races prizes will be awarded by age group for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

5th Annual Nights in Ventnor "Go Green" Parade

imageThe Nights in Ventnor Go Green Parade" is a non-profit, fossil fuel-free, boat floatilla held annually in the intercoastal waterway of Ventnor City, New Jersey.

The launch takes place at 5:00 PM sharp at the Dorset Avenue boat ramp in Ventnor. The rain date for this event is Sunday, August 7 at the same time.

A BBQ with music will take place after the parade.

The event is meant to highlight our waterways, create community unity  and raise awareness of the joys of going "Green".

The "Go Green" organizers are committed to giving back to the City of Ventnor by donating to small community projects.  The boat parade has grown yearly with special thanks to the people who decorate their floats and the volunteers who ensure everyone's safety. This event is suitable for all ages (children need to be accompanied by an adult).

2012 Atlantic County Puerto Rican Parade

imageIn 1995, a group came together with the stated purpose of preserving the heritage, culture and history of Puerto Rico in New Jersey. Therefore, the Atlantic County Puerto Rican Parade was established as the signature event around which all the other activities of the day revolved. This one-day event is an annual celebration of the past, present and future of all Puerto Ricans, keeping current the awareness and vitality of the Puerto Rican heritage and culture.

On Sunday, August 5, 2012, the Atlantic County Puerto Rican Parade will be holding its 16th Annual Parade on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, N.J. The Parade will begin at 12 Noon. Following the parade there will be a Latin Music Festival that will end around 10:00 p.m. The Parade Committee is very proud of its progress in establishing this parade as one of the largest in New Jersey. Our goal is not only to have a parade, but also to continuously educate our community on the history, heritage, culture, and arts not only of Puerto Rico, but the entire Latino community. We are very proud of the people, businesses and corporations, who have year after year supported this annual celebration, thereby helping to bring all cultures of our multicultural society closer together. The Puerto Rican Parade of Atlantic County is excited about its 13th Annual Parade and associated activities planned for the coming year. We look forward to seeing you there. 5th Annual NJ Maritime Heritage Celebration

Boat rides, lectures, demonstrations, surfboard exhibit, stand-up paddle board competition and lots of fun maritime activities among 14 historic buildings featuring decoy carving, boat building, folk arts, and surfing. Once known as the Barnegat Bay Decoy and Baymen’s Museum, the Tuckerton Seaport has evolved into a maritime village located along historic Tuckerton Creek in Tuckerton, New Jersey.  Tuckerton Seaport’s 40-acre site includes 17 historic and recreated buildings connected by a boardwalk, a maritime forest and wetlands nature trail, two houseboats, a decoy gallery, a working boatworks building in which restoration of sneakbox designs of the Barnegat Bay occurs, a historic marine railway (currently under reconstruction), decoy carving workshops and the recreated Tucker’s Island Lighthouse.  Daily demonstrators and traditional artists bring the Jersey Shore’s rich maritime heritage to life.

It is 30 miles from Atlantic City to Tuckerton (approximately a 45 minute drive).  The Tuckerton Seaport & Baymen's Museum is located at 120 W Main Street in Tuckerton.

Downbeach Film Festival 2012 Atlantic City Cinefest

imageThe mission of the Downbeach Film Festival/Atlantic City Cinefest is to present a cultural event for residents of and visitors to the communities of Atlantic City, Ventnor, Margate, Longport, Ocean City and beyond. The festival promotes new films, as well as filmmakers and actors all in an effort to celebrate the art form of moviemaking. We are rooted in the celebration of independent and studio film, and the creation of a forum where local and other independent filmmakers can exhibit their work. Our event also provides novice and aspiring filmmakers, actors, and others interested in a career in the film business, the opportunity to meet and network with industry professionals in an atmosphere that is conducive to learning and mentoring.

All films are shown in The Screening Room on the 13th floor of the Ocean Tower in Resorts Casino Hotel.

54th Annual Atlantic City Marathon

The race is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon and can also be a great training run for those gearing up for the New York City Marathon, the Chicago Marathon or for those who have been shut out of the Philadelphia Marathon. The Atlantic City race is ideal for runners who are looking for a challenging and fun small to mid-size competition.

Runners from across the nation and the world are discovering what many locals have known for years. This is a great race with a stunning, seaside course. Imagine views of the beach and the ocean beyond as you run along the boardwalk, pass the whimsical Lucy the Elephant and finish at Atlantic City’s Historic Boardwalk Hall.

The Marathon begins at 8:00 a.m. on the Atlantic City Boardwalk and includes a route that takes runners through the tunnel, past the ACUA's Atlantic City Wind Farm, and through Ventnor, Margate and Longport. Click here for a detailed map of the 26.2 marathon route.

Not quite up for a full marathon? This race offers something for everyone, with a marathon, a half-marathon, 10K, 5K Run/Walk and a Kids Fun Run.

Runners compete for cash prizes of $2,500 each for top male and female finishers in the marathon, and cash prizes and custom medals in other races as well. And everyone who registers for any race is eligible to win a $25,000 cash prize awarded at an afternoon raffle.

In advance of the big day, runners enjoy an elaborate pre-race dinner buffet at Bally’s Casino, complete with live entertainment. After the race, relax by the ocean at the beautiful Jersey shore or try your luck in one of Atlantic City’s casinos, where you can also take in dinner and a show.
